Rocket stove – small fire, great power. Why is it worth having one at hand?

Piec rakietowy – mały ogień, wielka moc. Dlaczego warto go mieć pod ręką?

What is a rocket stove?

A rocket stove is a compact wood or biomass-fueled heating device, designed to maximize the energy from the flame. Its distinctive name comes from the sound it makes – an intense rush of air and fire speeding through a narrow combustion channel.

Its operating principle is based on efficient gas combustion and high chimney draft. The effect is simple: minimal wood consumption, maximum heat, and a clean, intense flame without excessive smoke.

How does a rocket stove work?

Dry twigs or wood are placed into the bottom channel. Air enters the combustion chamber, feeding the fire with oxygen. The flame travels up a vertical channel, creating a strong draft – high temperatures combust gases and smoke particles, making the stove almost smokeless. A handful of twigs is enough to boil a liter of water in about 5–7 minutes.

How to light a rocket stove?

Place the stove on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Insert a few dry twigs or branches into the channel and use kindling – paper, dry grass, or birch bark will work. Once the fire is roaring, regularly add small pieces of wood. After a few minutes, the stove will reach full power – temperatures can exceed 600°C.

Cadabros rocket stoves – Polish quality in a steel form

At Cadabros, we design foldable rocket stoves that combine simplicity with exceptional functionality. Each model consists of 14 laser-cut 3mm steel elements – you can assemble it in a minute, without screws, tools, or welds.

The foldable design means that when disassembled, it takes up little space and can easily fit in a car, backpack, or camper trunk. The 3mm steel ensures resistance to high temperatures and deformation. Each stove is produced in Poland – with attention to precision and manual finishing.

Cadabros rocket stove in practice

It's more than just camping equipment. It will prove useful wherever you need a reliable source of fire: in the garden instead of a grill, at a campsite for quick cooking, for survival without access to electricity or gas, and also at home as an emergency heat source.

It doesn't require bottled fuel or an electrical outlet. It always works – just dry twigs are enough.

Why is it worth having a rocket stove at home or in your car?

In emergency situations – during power, gas, or heating outages – a rocket stove becomes one of the most practical tools you can have on hand. It allows you to prepare a warm meal, boil water, heat a room, and dry clothes. In an era of unstable energy prices, it's a small but significant step towards self-sufficiency.

A few interesting facts

The first rocket stoves were developed in the 1980s for developing countries to reduce wood consumption and the amount of smoke in homes. In a well-heated stove, smoke emissions can be up to 90% less than in a traditional campfire. Foldable versions, like Cadabros, are inspired by military designs – simple, durable, and reliable. A properly designed rocket stove can also be used to produce biochar, which enriches the soil.
